Instead of a sock make yourself a nice fabric scrunchy (or buy one). When I do this one the girls (or myself) I just use a big scrunchy to make the ponytail and then have them lean forward to spread the hair out and with two hands I open a ponytail holder (clear is best) and pop it on over.

I love this ballerina bun...We have been doing it for years. An easy trick...after you put the sock on and smooth out the hair I use a rubberband around the pony. It holds it nice and tight and smooth, you may have to double it depending on the thickness of the hair you are working with and the size of the hairband. I also twist the hair ends slowly gathering pieces as I go around the bun and
