Beans Teaches--Topsytail

Beans was so excited to shoot another video for you guys. She's such a fun girl. This tutorial I hope inspires your little girls to do there own hair. Because really that is an important step in the process of growing up. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let your girls leave the house with not 100% perfect hair at least once in a while. It will do great things for your girls confidence.

I will be honest it is hard to just stand back and let Beans do her own hair sometimes because there are ends that are curved under and some that are flipped out, but I want her to find value in doing her hair. And the confidence too. There are days I want to plug in the iron and touch it up just a little bit, but I don't. I hope you can do the same.

So this brings me to my question of the week for ya. Do you let your little girl do her own hair on occasion? Or are you a hair-tator who calls all the hair shots?

  1. My daughter is now almost 20 (gulp, wipe a tear away) but it was went both ways. I did her hair sometimes, sometimes she did her own growning up. Many time she would get frustrated and ask me to fix it or help. Now she comes home from college with friends and they line up for me to 'play' with their hair. It is actually so fun for me to play with their hair and try out new styles. Especially, when they redo the style on their own.
Beans, you did a fantastic job on your video!

  2. That is too cute. My five almost 6 year old said mom could you do a video of me doing my own breakfast? OH BOY! lol I let both my girls do their own hair (my 5 yr old still likes me to do it) but my 8 year old likes to her own. Usually its a headband, which I am not a big fan of those but I zip my lips and let her do it.

  3. I just have to say that these Beans Teaches videos make me smile - they're so cute! Good job Beans! My girl isn't old enough yet to do her own hair other than putting a stretchy headband in or a bow, but I try to encourage her.

  4. I do all the hair right now, because my 6 year-old has waist length hair and can't do it herself, and my other daughter is only 3 with tons of curls. I do let them pick their styles if they want. A lot of times they just sit and let me do it and admire my work! But, if they want a plain old ponytail, then I just go with it. I love Beans' tutorials, she did a great job!

  5. good job beans!! how old is she by the way?? my daughter is 9 and she knows how to do her hair, in simple ways (ponytail, headband). But she wanted to be like beans...doing her own braids on her hair. but i'm proud to tell you that my daughter can do braids on her classmates hair!! & she loved it & they loved it too!

  6. Haha, I was one of those girls who would have their mom do their hair and then rebelled and wouldn't let my mom touch it! My mom said at first I did totally crazy and *ahem* quite... unique styles, but I'm so glad my mom let me do it!! Now I'm most definetly super good at doing my hair, and (not exaggerating in the least!! Not at all, totally serious) the best hair-doer at my school.=] Love all your hair tutorials, and great job Beans!!

  7. My 8 yr old does her own hair almost every day, usually just a simple pony-tail. Some days I help her, especially if she wants something fancy. MY 5 yr old just started doing hers too, but I still do it about 1/2 the time. (They have to have it all tied back for school.) I'm going to show them this tutorial, it might be a good weekend style they can do. Just have to find one of the topsy tail things, I haven't seen one in ages.

  8. Another great job! She's turning out to be just like her mommy. I'm gonna let my 6 year old watch this in hopes that she'll want to style her own hair.

  9. I want my daughter to work on her own hair! Unfortunately, she is a bit of a perfectionist and if it isn't absolutely perfect she is devastated. We're working on it... Thanks for the videos! My Beanie may have more confidence if she see another girl doing her own hair.

  10. My mum taught me how to braid my own hair when I was VERY young, and I've almost always sorted my hair out by myself. It sure helped me to walk out of the house with my hair in a total mess, I just kept trying and trying and eventually I learned it. Some of my friends don't even know how to braid! I am so grateful for my mum letting me do my own hair.
