Ideas For Short Hair--- #1

How many of my followers are working with SHORT hair? Or how many of you have a little girl that wants to go short, but you beg them to stay long so you can still do things with her hair? Well we've recently hit that stage of wanting it to be short. And Beans trip to the school this last time with me made her want to go the shortest yet.

Her cut is a very VERY slight A-line bob with layers in the back giving it great shape--- ITS BEAUTIFUL. We pulled all the layers back to a stationary guide so there are layers in the front, but not much! Its not a get up and go hair style. I could let her walk out the door and it would look fine, but this hair style requires work with the flat iron daily to look like this. We love it!

My goal while her hair is short is to take advantage of it and do some fun hair do's that are easy and can be done in short hair so you have more options. I'm aware these have been done and I am not going to do a tutorial on most of these. But I just wanted to give you a few idea's for short hair do styles.
Today we did four really short braids in the front bang area. Not a lot of area is covered, but this gives it a clear style rather than just down. (Sorry the second photo is just a smidgen out of focus.) This is a great one if you are growing out bangs, or just to mix things up a bit in the daily routine. So give this one a try if you are needing to do something with your short bob.
Just curious---- I let Beans decide what hair she wants despite it would be easier to show all my brilliant idea's if she would keep her hair long. DO YOU LET YOUR DAUGHTER decide her own hair style?

  1. Love her hair. Is it normally that straight? I have a little princess with shorter hair and it's REALLY curly. Trying to come up with some options.

  2. My daughter wanted her hair cut at the beginning of last year and I wouldn't let her do it. My reason for this, besides the fact that I love her long hair, was because most of her friends had just cut their hair pretty short. I knew she only wanted to do it because her friends had. I've told her that if she says she wants it cut and I know it's not just because she's following some friends I'll let her do it. Now she tells me all the time she's so glad I didn't let her cut her hair.

  5. I BEG my 6 year old daughter to let us cut her hair. It is a few inches above her waist and takes so long to wash it, brush it and do it. She wants to be Rapunzel. I let her keep it long because it is a part of her. I think she should be able to have it like she wants it.

  7. I cut my daughter's hair into a chin length bob a couple of years ago (we were fixing what she'd started herself, sigh) and I had a horrible time dealing with static and dry hair all winter long. I keep thinking of cutting it again, but then I think it has to be long enough to braid and keep out of her face during the winter. Anyone else deal with this problem or have ideas to combat crazy static flyaway hair?

  8. My daughter did Locks of Love at the beginning of the summer, so for now we're back to short hair. This is the 2nd time she's done Locks of Love, so we've gotten to play with all different lengths of hair! Please keep the short hair ideas coming, since she still wants her hair "done" every day, and I'm running out of ideas!

  9. Chrissy- use drier sheets to rub over her hair when it gets to static prone. Don't rub too much though becuase then it will look weighed down by the lotions in the drier sheet.

  10. MY daughter is growing out her hair to donate it to locks of love. IT gets so ratty, I am at my wits end. But she really wants to dontae so we keep on keepin on! Can't wait to try these new dos!

  11. So glad you'll be showing some short dos. My daughter cut hers off a few months ago and I feel so boring now! And yes, I do let them decide for themselves on what hair they want unless it would be a look that absolutely required me to manage it every single day. Sometimes you just need to be able to get up and go.

  12. I was always forced to have a pixie cut when I was a girl so I swore my girls would never have to cut their hair if they didn't want to. My 14 year old had hers cut to a chin length bob when she was 8 (and donated her waist length hair) She currently has hair to her midback (but won't let me play with it) My 8 yr old has never had a hair cut beyond her bangs and has no plans to get a hair cut. She prefers her hair to just hang loose but is willing to let me fix her hair out of her face so I am always looking here for good ideas. There has not been one I tried that she didn't like

Nearly all of the things you point out happens to be astonishingly precise and it makes me ponder the reason why I had not looked at this in this light before. This piece really did turn the light on for me as far as this particular topic goes. But there is one particular factor I am not necessarily too cozy with and while I attempt to reconcile that with the actual main theme of your issue, allow me observe just what the rest of the subscribers have to say,Very well done.

  14. Very awesome website! I am always looking for new ways to do my girls hair, but never really had the talent. School starts tomorrow and I want them to feel as great as possible. I often do the little braids or twisties like in these pics, but have a hard time getting the braids to lay flat, is there a trick to it? Also on another shorter style pic, the parted "knots" are adorable, how exactly do you knot the hair without it frizzing or actually becoming entangled? Looking forward to exploring more new designs as I have a daughter with short thinner hair and one with very thick and long hair! thanks for taking the time to share, Fallon Smith

  15. My daughter decided to try to cut her own hair about 5 months ago. By the time I had realized what she was doing I had to cut it pretty short to even it out. Once I got used to it I thought it looked cute on her but I miss her long hair, and after she realized how short I had to cut her hair she really missed her long hair too. I am very happy to see more short hair styles! They definitely help to keep the hair out of her eyes until it grows out and she still can feel like a princess with pretty hair styles.

  17. I just found you via Pinterest. My daughter's hair is cut short and is sooo cute - stacked layers in the back, a little longer towards the front, and bangs. The problem I have with her hair is she always ends up with a long chunk of hair hanging right in her face. And it doesn't seem to bother her, so she just leaves it there until I tell her to push it out of her face!!!

I'm looking through your ideas for short hair in the hope that she will also like one of them and let me try it on her. Fingers crossed!!

  18. Sorry, me again. A couple things to add:
    1) Yes, my daughter gets to pick her hairstyle. It's hair, if she wants it super short, that's fine. (However the hanging in her face so she can't see? Not fine!)

    2) I love this hairstyle, but I'm not so skilled at doing stuff with hair. I know how to make a braid if the hair was long, but I can't figure out how you made the braids in her hair. Any chance you MIGHT do a tutorial for beginners like me? Maybe "Braiding for Dummies" or something like that? :)

  19. My daughter gave herself her first haircut, leaving it very short after we evened it up. it's also very wavy/curly. I love the short hair do's but like Miss Mommy above, I am a beginner. Any tutorials for this do?
