The Standard Bow

Wishy-washy Beans now wants to grow her bangs back out, so here is an idea for hidings growing out bangs. The biggest point of this tutorial however is bow placement. Just because you have two identical bows it no reason you can't place them in unbalanced non-symmetric positioning. So pay close attention to that--- because it can be done and it can be dang cute too. Start by dividing the hair with a band in the front on both sides and pull the rest into a pony tail to get it out of your way. See the bangs--- I think she just wants to have them over her eyes--- $2o bucks says she is trying to get her way with bangs over her eyes--- Only time will tell.

Pull a small section into a pony tail that holds all those bangs in loosely together.

And knot that up and tighten it down. That is how we are keeping the bangs out of the face while they grow out.

I may have not made that clear earlier, but that pony tail should be off centered so that you can throw a bow over the knot. This makes it look like the bow is what is holding the bangs out of the way.

Braid down the rest of the hair. There wasn't a lot of french braiding going on, but there is a little at the top by the bow. Did I mention where that pretty little bow is from--- OH MY GOSH I DIDN'T--- shoot-a-roo. Today's bows are of course from Jen at All Things Ribbon. She has some beautiful Spring and Summer colors right now, so go check out her goods.

Repeat with the knot and the braid on the other side omit the bow on the other side.

Next you will pull the remaining hair into a nice pony tail as high as you would like the bun to be. With the braids you use a rubber band to secure them under the pony tail. For the bun you have all kinds of bun choices. To give you a few of my favorites you can check out this messy bun, the bun done with a rolled up sock, back combed bun, I did my style bun (The tutorial went missing, more info on that in a few days...) and I improved my style by using the bobby pin suggestion from this tutorial from Babes in Hairland (Great video of that one).

Now the only problem we have it that tail hanging down from the braids we combined under the hair.

That is where bow number two comes in from All Things Ribbon. Lift it and hide it under the bun. If you need a few bobby pins right here to make sure it doesn't slip out go on and throw those in the style here.

Then safely tuck that bow in barely peaking out from under the bun. You want it seen, but subtle.

And this is what you end up with. I love the bow placement, its not just pig tails-- its different--- its wonderful--- I love it.

Bangs are out of the way, hair is off the neck, and it is beautiful to boot! Enjoy.

Flower Bun

Spring is FINALLY here. and flowers are popping up everywhere-- even in Beans hair. I have been picturing this one in my head for at least six months, but the time just wasn't right to bring out flowers, it would have just been depressing. But now that the sun is shining and my garden is being planted I think it is finally time to bring on the flowers.Start with a pony tail and put in a rubber band in five to six sections of the hair about half way down.

Knot up the sections one at a time. I twisted each one up two times each then you move on to the next step-- you are making petals right now. Work on each one individually for the best results.

This is the petal-- or at least what it should look like.

Roll the left over hair into a curl and we are going to bobby pin this down.

Bobby pin it using a Chris-cross technique to anchor the hair tight.

And you have a petal. repeat with each of the sections to make your petals.

And in the end you have a pretty flower bun. Don't you love spring?

Add a Flower

Its funny--- did you know this was a bun I felt like I totally messed up. It is. Beans wanted me to make one that looked like a sea shell, so I was trying a seashell hair style and I messed up. No big deal, hair is pretty forgiving, throw in a flower and call it a messy mistake--- no big deal.

Quick Cute Braids

If you don't have time to do french braids this is a nice alternative. And if you don't know how to french braid this might just work for you. We like this one a lot on days we are in a hurry.Start with two VERY LOOSE low piggy tails.

I am talking very loose. You should be able to reach your fingers through the pony tail part. And you need to in order to make a loose knot.

Grab the pony tail and pull it back through the pony tail.

DO NOT TIGHTEN DOWN. Keep these knots very loose.

This is a fun cute hair do by itself, but the idea was not just knot pig tails, so braid the rest of the hair and secure it with a rubber band.

Try and not do a tight braid. The idea is for it to be loose.

And there you have it. Fun simple quick and cute. This one is great for the mom that isn't a morning person, but doesn't want their child to go to school with bed head.

Fringe

So huge THANK YOU!!! With the suggestion of fringe bangs we googled and started looking at results that came up for "fringe bangs" and we came across Rihanna and Beans said, "YUP, That's the one!" She found what she was thinking of.

I have to point out that she is five... WHAT FIVE YEAR OLD EVEN THINKS LIKE HER? Its nuts! I can't help but laugh about her style. She is too funny.

I don't see us trying to make this hair style work for a five year old.

French Bangs

Beans told me today she wants to have French bangs--- I have no idea what she is trying to tell me. So I Googled it and I am no more informed on what French Bangs are, so if anyone know what she is talking about, I'd love a link. I asked if she meant a french braid in her bangs and we did that for her hair do today, but she says that is not what she means. She is certain this is something that is real and not something she made up, so... DO YOU KNOW WHAT SHE MEANS?

My Only Easter Suggestion (this year)

Last Sunday Beans was telling me about the hair do she wanted for church. We had just got done watching, "The Princess and The Frog" for the 28th time (that week--- just kidding) when she asked if I could do her hair like Princess Tiana's hair. This was what we came up with--->
That one side looks flat, but it's not--- it must have been the lighting or how she was tipped-- it really looked like this---->
It is just a high pony tail that I pinned above the pony tail with bobby pins and then curled it back over the opposite direction kind of like an "S" shape. I didn't know it would end up so pretty or I would have shoot step by step. But at last--- I didn't and I apologize.

I know it feels like I am back and doing the blogging thing again because I have posted a lot lately--- a lot without step-by-step tutorials, but posted non the less. I just thought I should say that baby J's surgery went well. I haven't been to the doctors in weeks for more than a ear infection on the kid and life seems to be getting smoothed out. I quit my job about the same time that I quit the blog and things are letting up in my life... I may be back, but I won't make that decision 100% until after April. I do miss posting tutorials and blogging. Hope you all have a great Easter.
