Locks of Love Updates

Mandy's Daughter Donated a few weeks back. This was her daughters plan since she felt it was very near and dear to her heart. There is a girl at her school who suffers from Alopecia and her cousin's best friend died of cancer last year. This was important for her to accomplish.Laura and her cute girls (7 yrs. and 5 yrs.) donated back on November 10th! ((see how far behind I am.) She had a problem when they cut the hair of her five year old finding some natural curl. I hope she is getting used to that. Sorry I didn't have more advice.

But check out all that hair that was donated! That is so exciting. Thank you all so much for making this important.
Locks of Love and all those girls you are helping I am sure thank you as well!!! You are good people.

Another one with Synthetic Hair

Just wanted to show one that wasn't so messy and how it looks with a little less mess- Scroll too see how this synthetic hair was used before.

Candy Cane Lane

Looking for a cute Christmas like hair do--- Look no further. This one is very easy, just add your ribbon at the end to give it that perfect candy cane look.

Why Not Add Color?

Adding Synthetic hair is a great idea for adding color. Its available in a very wide variety of colors and easy to use. It just clips right in. We picked up some fun pink hair from Hot Topics in the mall for about six bucks for two clip ins.
These clips have both the comb and a snap to lock the hair into place. Once you get it in next to the head you can comb through it and style it like your normal hair.
And it is subtle. Well- except for the fact that its very bright hot pink.
We got funky and pulled this into half pigs and threw those into buns.
We tattered the hair for texture and funk appeal.
See that pink peaking through?
What a fun new hair thing to play with. Its a nice and small package perfect for stocking stuffer sized presents--- if you need any thing that size.

That surprise hair do I was telling you about... BANGS!! And I'm not talking pots and pans. Beans wanted to chop her hair or do something different with her hair. Since she wants to cut it, but also wants to wait to donate it she was torn. I told her we could do whatever she wanted... She chose to stay on board donating her hair and just cut out some hip bangs.

My (ever so fabulous) sister and I came up with a way we like to cut our bangs when we were in high school. My sister actually was the brains behind this one. I just fell in line and used the technique too. So this is how WE do it-- its probably wrong, but it works for us. Before the cut we lightly dampen the hair. Just lightly.
Smooth it back very loosely.
Part the bangs out. Growing up my mom used to go half way back on the top of my head and I had a lot of bangs! A LOT! So we make sure and just keep it simple and just a small amount of hair.
And I take the time to make sure the part is crisp and just how I like it before I cut. This is one of the few times I do are about a part. If you've been following Girly Do's for a while you know I don't worry about things like that when I am doing a hair style.
Now you will gather the hair together- NOT CLUMPED, but just together by the nose. doing this does a few things. One it makes the bangs curve and not be a strait line across the forehead. It will have longer hair on the sides and transition into the back part better. (Or so we found) It tapers nicely. And you know how mom's have a tendency to cut the hair to short and not take into account the spring back effect hair has when it is dry. Well if you clip the hair pulled tight just above the tip of the nose you will find it is the right length when it springs back. In my opinion when the bands are above the eye brows it looks a little goofy. Maybe slightly above them, but in a lot of cases its too high above them.
Cut the hair in a strait line where you have it pulled together just above the tip of the nose.
Its not 100% strait, but close enough. Its THIS moment where people screw up and keep trying to get it perfect and end up with dork bangs that are to high up. LOL- just be careful if you try this one to not clip to much.
We let them dry and wanted to show where they lye before we style them. FOR ME--- they sit right at the perfect spot. Your opinion may be different, but this works for me.
Beans first reaction to bangs was a big thumbs up--- we like this new look.
We discovered we had company and had to shoot a picture of this intruder--
Because he is so darn cute.
We used the flat iron to give it a slight curl under and ta-duh there you have it. Beans new look.

Thank you!!! I loved all the comment love you guys gave. I read every one and even cried through a lot of them. You guys made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. So let me tell you a little story:

Three years ago I was home sick one day throwing up and sick as a dog. My body hurt, but it was so much more than just a flu hurt. I called the doctor about it because my back was hurting. It was very weird. They suggested I go to the hospital and get tested for Spinal Meningitis. So I did. Well from that came months worth of insane hospital trips. They were testing my spinal fluid and I had an excessive amount which I guess makes them think tumor. They sent me down for a CT scan right away. They found nothing.

The next day I got into a neurologist. I called them in tears. I felt so abnormal and I couldn't move without pain and throwing up. He was the best doctor in the whole world and sent me back to the ER to a blood patch on my spine. That was an INSANE experience. I had spinal fluid leaking out into my body from the test the day before. Almost immediately I felt better. But I had headaches after that. And they still thought I had a tumor somewhere. So it was about six months worth of tests. All the time hunting for a tumor that they believed was hiding somewhere.

In the midst of all this we got pregnant with Baby J. Totally not planned. Totally a blessing. Total life changing experience. Other than my husband and maybe my mom I don't think people know how much pain I was in during that pregnancy. Preterm labor. Headaches that I couldn't take anything for. It was a hard pregnancy. However I always felt like he was the cure. He was to perfect to not be. We gave him the middle name of Remy which we were able to tie into our favorite team the Red Sox and it means remedy.

He has been a remedy for our family. He's been the cure for a lot of things. They never found my tumor. I still have times that I think something is happening and I should go back and find out what is wrong, but I find that diet has been a huge answer to my problems. Medically I don't think the answer is always a problem other than your diet, but that is a whole different topic.

Well- Baby J has problems of his own. He's spent a lot of his time in the hospital. He's been poked more than my other two kids in there whole lives compared to his two years. He's had so many tests on him. I go two or three weeks with out doctors appointments and I start thinking I missed one. If you ever meet baby J you wouldn't know there was anything wrong with him. He is so happy and nothing slows this kid down. He is inspirational.

The day I started my giveaway I had a call from a nurse about more tests and more specialists that we need to go see. She wasn't very nice. She kind of made it out that I wasn't doing what I needed to be doing. When that's all I ever do. A few weeks back I fought with them for this information so I could get the work done for him, but they denied me. So I figured I would wait until my appointment since it wasn't happening by phone. She made me cry. So I started my giveaway. And when it didn't get a lot of attention I stood back and thought about things. This blog is just a lot of work right now. Baby J has to take priority. I know I don't neglect him and I know the problem is the staff under this doctor that we have to work with right now. I understand. But I think I need to take a break anyways.

You guys deserved to know that its nothing from you. Its just that I need to take care of Baby J and he has a surgery coming up that I need to make my priority. I have five or six already shoot hair styles to post and I am going to post date them, but once they are done I can't make any promises of coming back. Because I just don't know where we will be with baby J. Girly Do's will not be deleted. I am very sorry I gave anyone that impression. You can still surf around and see what you want. Leave comments. Please still let me know when you donate to Locks of Love that puts a smile on my face. And I will let you know when Beans donates hers also. But for now this is me hanging up my hair drier--- as a good friend of mine once said.
Baby J and Beans!
