Happy Fourth

I love the forth of July and its only four days away! Waaa-who!
So as much as I wish I had a tutorial on this one- I don't my camera died as I was doing Beans hair this morning so all you get is the end results. But it is pretty simple what I did. If you simplify my "Got Time" hair do and and dumb it down two notches and then doll it up about three you will end up with this hair do.1. Start with a pony tail on top. All of the pony tails are your points so think of that while you are working on placement of your pony tails.
2. Do your two side pony tails
3. Your bottom pony tails will be put in last.
4. You will divide each of the pony tails in half and then combine them in the middle. You can braid these or twist them or add ribbon to them before you combine them for added flare.
5. combine all the remaining hair into a pony tail and finish it with a messy bun or whatever kind you like, That way you can see the whole star. Guess what-- it looks fabulous even left as a ponytail, but we wanted to hide the star a little and keep it more subtle.

That is it- really it is that easy- I think you can do this one without the tutorial if you are wanting to use this for your Forth Of July Celebration. Or--- as we plan to do--- using it during shape week at school in Kindergarten. How fun will that be? We have hearts and stars for Kindergarten!

Happy Independence Day!
Heres a side shot.
Front view wish a side if cheese!

50's Do

Today's hair do has been brought to you by: Swine Flu... if your going to be sick why not get the latest with the most TV air time. Yeah- my son has swine flu giving us extra time at home to catch up on posting things like this hair do. This is really simple, but so cute. I've done it at least a dozen times in the last month.
Start with your part.
Take out a section from the front for your big over the top single curl on top. Take this section of hair and spray it with hair spray. SPRAY IT. If you don't use hair spray on this one it will totally flop.
Now starting on the top part of this hair flip it back to start your curl.
And curl it. Imagine playing air guitar, but with an air curler in there. (ha ha) That's a joke...
Keep rolling it..
Until at the top of the head.
Then use your bobby pins to secure the curl. Anchor it using the X technique.
Now take out a piece of hair right below the curl working on the same side. Don't cross over your starting part. And twist this hair just a little.
Then make a loop and use bobby pins to hold this in place.
So you should have your big curl on top and a nice simple loop below it. And a big gap between the two. We are going to fill that gap at the end of the hair do.
Zig-zag part the back and pull it into pig tails. Low ones.
Now take a little bit of the hair that is in the pony tail and use this to give it a fun finish.
Twist it around and around until you have just a little piece left.
At the end you are going to use a rubber band to secure it nice and tight. You should use clear if you have it. The idea here is to not see the rubber band. Cinch it over the rubber band and check it out.
Cute isn't it. And there are a few fly aways. They don't bother me.
And you don't even see the part of the hair that is tucked underneath from wrapping it around the pony tail.
Do you see that left down hair? If you look hard you can.
Now this is so cute--- we added this fun Fourth of July Flair from Flowers and Bows. You know what I LOVE about this cute little star bow. It's different then your usual red, white and blue bows everywhere else. Its darling!
And this is what you have.
She was being as cheesy as she could the day we shot this. She's a goof-ball!
Thank you Flowers and Bows!!!

Linky Pigs

All right--- so I can't keep up with all the cool in stuff like the other hair blogger's. I talked about Twitting, and I can't do it. I have Girly Do's Gives and I can't keep up. I know there are some hair blogger's that are willing to put in the extra work of doing Twitter and going to those sites to load up on followers and stuff, but I can't do it. I am having a hard enough time just trying to post all the hair do's I already have shot, not to mention the new stuff I am working on shooting. So forgive me. I am going to give my shout outs here and I am moving my "Gives" site stuff over here mostly on my side bar. You can watch for that over the next few days. I finally got all the old hair styles linked as thumb prints on the side. I am missing a few of my newest, but I feel pretty accomplished! And I like how that looks.

Anyways---- let me update you on stuff going on around the web. First of all there is only a few more days left to enter Sugar and Spices Giveaway. And if you want in on Flowers and Bows you need to click her link now- her giveaway ends tonight. So go there if you are wanting free-bee's! Next there is a giveaway of hair things at a new Kid Friendly...Mommy Approved site that you may want to look at. And there is a new idea in bows with The Bow of the Month Club. Such a different concept to hair bowing. We've needed something unique like this for a while haven't we. So go check out those cool kids. And if you are doing anything hair related feel free to let me know and I will try and share the news with my readers. Still follow me on Twitter if you are a twitterer---- because I may still have live giveaways to twit about. Okay on to this cute little do... Links as Pig tails--- I know you are so excited right?
Start by securing and dividing the hair for your pigs.
Next section out a piece near the front. I go from the corner of the part where the forehead is and angle back towards the back and I go about three fingers above the ear and to the same thing. Parting kind of a triangle out.
To get this to hold all day you will need to use hair spray. More then I generally like to use, but this is cute--- its worth it. So spray down the part you parted out and you are going to spray more every time you add hair into your loop.
Once coated with hair spray divide in half.
You will do your fist knot by crossing the hair one over the other.
Tuck the one that was on top through the loop. Yes this is a basic knot. If you can tie a shoe you can tie hair.
Pull it through and yank it tight.
From here you are going to take some of the down hair from the left and add it to the left section of hair and from the right added to the right section of hair.
It may be hard to tell but that was divided and this is the picture of it added. Remember you are adding hair pray to hold down fly away hairs here. Yes this is the point you want to take care of that.
Now it is just this easy. Do another knot and keep it loose. Do this over and over again until you are where you want to call it good. You should still have some hair down use this to finish the pony tail and anchor your links.
So pretty.
Repeat on the other side and you will have your pig tails.
Add a cheesy smile and you are good to go!!!

News from the Front Lines

I have so many hair do's I need to get posted. I shot this one (forever ago---like school was still in session) and decided it looks a little to dark. You know what it is... my living room is dark brown. And when I shoot in there everything just looks very dark. I just need to shoot in a brighter room. So I am going to re-shoot this cute do. It's a cute little sixty's do. With the big finger curl upfront. One of my favorites right now. So I will fix this one. In the mean time... I want to see your do's. I used to a very loooooong time ago show off your stuff here in a monthly post and I think I would like to start doing that again. So if you have a hair do you'd like to show off please email it to me girlydos(at)hotmail(dot)com. I can't wait to see your styles.

A Swimming Do

My Lovely husband went out of town for work today taking with him the family car. His truck broke down last weekend and while it was a simple fix they broke a part in the process that is a special order part. Its going to take a few days to get it in. So since I am here and I still have a few to post I thought I may as well set up for a few to post over the next few weeks so I can work on my other projects. I know I said I was taking off for the summer, but then I got the blogher ad's on my page and I now have to post weekly anyways, so I guess my vacation is over. Bummer. Just kidding I LOVE THIS PLACE!So the question was asked about swimming hair do's. And while I am no expert on the subject I do have my thoughts about swimming hair do's.
1. NO hair spray. It is destined to go right in the eyes and cause irritation. So don't use hair spray when you plan on going swimming.
2. Keep the front part tight and do whatever with the rest. That way it stays out of her eyes.
3. SUNSCREEN on the parts! We had the cutest little gal when I was a preschool teacher that got cancer on top of her head in her hair. Her mom was diligent about putting on sunscreen but didn't think about the hair line as a place to worry about. Well she got cancer. So I can't tell you enough to use sunscreen in the hair. Especially on the part lines where the sun is sure to expose.
That's it as far as my own thoughts on the swimming do's and summer hair in general with number three especially!
Start with wet hair on this one or at least dampen the hair.
Part out a long rectangle at the very top. Short across the forehead and long going towards the back of the hair. Divide that into two parts.
Now focusing on the half in your left hand. (the other I have set down with a clip holding it for me) Start with the hair held high. You are going to twist this strand clockwise or in towards the other half of hair you have parted out.
As you twist the hair with tighten to the head. This is why I say to do this with wet hair BTW-- it makes the twist so much tighter and cleaner looking. And since you aren't using hair spray you can really only get that by starting wet.Nice and tight against the head. Twist it tight and then you will do the same with the hair on the right side. With the already twisted knot held tight in your left hand hold on to your other strand of hair and start twisting it counter clockwise. Or in towards the other strand of hair.See how both of them have been twisted inwards. Now secure with a rubber band. Don't twist the rubber band in to tight. As we all know the effects of rubber bands and chlorine. Yes it can cause breaking in hair. So keep rubber bands loose to help prevent this.Do as many as you want. Three was a happy number for us.At this point you can do whatever you want. A pony tail, a piggy tail, leave it down... it doesn't matter. I like to pull it back and then after swimming have the option to take out the pony tail or pig tail and have a cute down do after the swim leaving the knots up top in place. Great for amusement parks. We pig tailed it up and threw in some Knot Heads just for the look of that hair accessory and we called it good.
Ready to go swimming now! This is a hair do I do often because it is so quick and I have done it here before under a head band. It holds those front hair fly aways and keeps them maintained. Just what you need for a good swim do.
