Girly Do's on Hiatus & True Story vs. Urban Legend

Girly Do's is temporarily out of the creative realm. This is due to the effects of toddler curiosity. Because as we all know when a toddler is told no a million times about touching a certain thing, eventually it becomes there mission to touch it. So today... he got into our neatly organised hair drawer and rearranged it to his own satisfaction. Needless to day I have a lot of reorganizing to do AGAIN! I actually am not gone or mad. I am just annoyed with having to reorganize this mess again. But grateful that he finally got it out of his system and didn't hurt himself in the process. That hurting himself issue was more the reason for keeping him from playing in there in the first place.

Second order of business is in that of public awareness. You make the call is this a true story or an urban legend. Yesterday when I was at work I had a friend tell me a story about her friend. So this is one of those friend of a friend stories. Anyways-- Her friend was at good old McD's and her kids were playing on the play land equipment having a jolly good time. Another friend who was meeting them there showed up and called the little girl over to her because she noticed something in her hair. Upon inspection she found tons of lice. Lice that was not on her hair before. It came from the play land and it was full of lice. This poor little girl with hair to the middle of her back had to be treated four times before it was clear and the mom was worried about having to shave her head. How awful would that be?

Your call. Is that a true story or an urban legend I made up?

  1. eggs would not have had time to hatch during a playtime at McD's.

  2. My vote is that you made it up, but it wouldn't suprise me if it was real. Those playplaces are disgusting and after having an immune compromised child, there's no way we play in them.

Thanks for all the great hairdo's!

  3. I'm gonna say Urban Legend cause lice is so small that you couldn't "see" it from far away. Also unless the child had dark hair it is hard to see lice close up even. Most people know they have lice because their head itches and after a VERY close inspection they find a few eggs in the hair (which are the size of the top of a pin).

  4. Yep, you wouldn't be able to see lice from that far away to have noticed it. And now my head is itching just thinking about it *shiver*

  5. My vote is that it could be true but I don't think that it is. I think that the lice couldn't live in plastic tubes with out clothing, hair, and other things like that.

  6. Oh my I hope its not true.It has me scared to death. We are going to McDonalds today for a birthday party!

  7. I'm sure it could be true. But bear in mind that it takes lice eggs a while to hatch and cover a head like that and they're super small and very difficult to see. It's highly likely that her daughter got lice from another place and only just noticed it while they happened to be at McD's. I wouldn't be any more afraid of a play place. They're usually made of plastic which isn't a good place for lice to live. Children are just as likely to get lice riding a bus, trying on clothes at a store, playing with a friend, sitting on a dentist's/doctor's office couch/chair, etc.

Now you're making my head itch!

  8. ♥ Either way it's totally nasty and I hope and pray I never have to deal with lice! Blech!

  9. I vote false. First of all you can only be treated one time for lice b/c the medicine is toxic to the body if used repeatedly and second I don't think that lice can live on plastic. But that is one nasty story. I hope you got all your organizing done!!!

  10. LOL all the lice ganged up on one poor girl but didnt attach themselves to the workers or other kids.If this is true the kid had lice prior to the playland experience because like everyone else says it takes a while for eggs to hatch. She may have picked up one louse but they dont run in packs and attack poor innocent children. AND HAHAHAHA on the toddler effect!I found velveeta in the toilet before. There little brains are figuring this whole life thing out :>

  11. I don't think its true heres why: you cant see them from far away, lice while they are easy to catch, they aren't. Heres a TRUE story that explains both points. I Myself, worked in a daycare. We used to do head checks every couple weeks, especially on the gradeschoolers. Well one time we were doing them, and this girl who had happened to miss the last couple of rounds of them was in my line. She bent over and tipped her head and I almost puked! There were at least 100 lice in there, babies and adults. and hundreds of eggs, without me even digging through her hair. No one else in the center had them except her family. It was so disgusting. She came back 2 days later with a clean head after only 2 rid treatments (if they are done right you shouldn't need more than that)you actually (most of the time anyway, except for that RARE case) have to share something with the lice infested person, like a hair piece, a hat or something, they also thrive in warm dark areas so are generally found at the nape of the neck, where we always checked first!
Now if this had happened to YOU personally, I would believe it, because I don't know you to be a liar or story teller.

  12. So I'm a little behind everyone else... and you've already told us the story was somewhat true:) Anyway, I decided I need to organize my hair styling items and WOW! I had no idea there was so much stuff! Before I just had it all in cosmetic bags or stuffed in my bathroom drawer, in buckets under the sink, etc. I got it all out and started going through it and realized I have an insane amount of hair stuff... and I need it all!!! Lol, I guess it just adds up; I am always buying something new to use:) Thanks for the comic relief!

  13. My husband took one of our kids on a date to McDonalds a couple of weeks ago and a kid actually POOPED on the playgrond. Pulled down his pants and POOPED! Gross! I am so glad that I wasn't there! I can only imagine how mortified the kid's mom was, though! YUCK!!!

  14. I know personally how hard it is to get rid of lice my dd's school had an infestation and my girls had to be treate 4 seperate times, I would clear it all up and send them back only to have them get it again a couple of days after they went back to school. Both had long hair at the time, what a hard time we had getting it cleaned out.

  15. Actually lice can get quite big and the bugs have to be there to lay eggs first! So I believe that it could have been true from personal experience, found some bugs on my daughters hair after I picked her up from school, yes I found the bugs not the eggs.

  16. So the girl never had lice before McD's but played a while and had a head full of them, you made it up...
