Curlers

Hellllllllooooooooo! Let me start this off with a question for you to think about... Where you more excited about what hair do I would do next or to see the finished remodel on my house? Ha ha Just kidding-- I know your all here for the hair! But if you are curious... the remodeling goes on... and on... and on! But when it is all done this place is going to be GOR--GEOUS!!!

I am actually taking a painting break to post this hair do. Because I am so excited! I'm also a dork and I think my true hair obsession will shine through with this one. While I was staying at my parents house this last weekend I spent a long time Sunday morning in the bathroom getting myself and Nikyla ready for church. I remembered spending a lot of time doing my hair in that bathroom growing up, so much that my family often made fun of me. My dad got in on the humor one day and "gave" me that bathroom as my own personal space and then referred to me as "Queeeeeeeen Jenn!" LOL-- Whats funny is I pretty much always wore my hair strait and down in high school, but it took a long time to get the weird curls that are ONLY in the back of my hair to lie flat. So while it seemed like I spent a lot of time in the bathroom I never had high hair or a crazy style. I didn't like using hair spray because I thought to much would make your hair fall out. So I wasn't a high hair girl, but my family thought I spent to much time on my hair. I also didn't really wear more make up than eye mascara. So it wasn't a make-up thing either. Anyways there isn't much of a point to that. I just remembered that-- and it made me giggle. While I was there though I did make you guys a special treat. And I'm sure my family thought I was being diva-ish again!!! But it was fun. I made the cutest hair curlers ever by following this tutorial. I mentioned my curiosity before in an older post. This weekend gave me the time to make 'em. Kind of. We were actually really busy, but I couldn't sleep much at nights anyways, so when the kids went to bed I worked on these.

Aren't they darn near the cutest things ever? We had to go with pink-- of course. And when I saw this polka dot material it was over!

In her hair and ready for bed. These are so nice and soft. All-in-all I worked on a set of 20 (I ended up only using 14) for two nights. These are simple to make. I don't consider myself an expert at sewing at all. But I do know a thing or two about sewing. And I loved my mom's machine for button holes. It was the best. I had never done button holes before and has to read the manual to make them happen, but once I got going it was cake! I also have plenty of this material left over for a second set (wink wink).

And how did the curls turn out?

Very Pretty! And much more of a grown up look than the Rag curls. I usually do.

Don't get me wrong I still love my rag curls! But as far as a time saver. I put these in her hair in less than ten minutes. Rag curls generally take about a half hour. These curls are a lot bigger. Not nearly as tight. And in Nikylas hair they died by the end of the day. But it still had a nice simple wave to it and looked like I had curled it under with a flat iron. So it was still beautiful. But if I need a curl that lasts I will still rely on my rags.

As far as finishing this look I wish I would have done a little more to it. SO that as the curls died it was held up a little more nicely, but I just gave it three twists on top and held them together with this flower hair accessory I made. I was making these wrong until this tutorial from over at Hair Today. I was NOT trimming off that back part before her help. And of course they were way bulky and would fall of mid day from being ... to bulky. So thank you.

Its time for me to get back to work! Hope you enjoyed this little post!

After seeing this post (on the original blog :-( so sorry about that!), I whipped some up for my girls. My oldest has long, thick hair and the curls stayed in beautifully all day. They relaxed a bit, but were still pretty. My middle daughter has short hair and they didn't stay in her hair, but she made sure they were all out in a matter of 10 minutes! My youngest is 3 and has thin hair. Our results with her hair were about the same as yours! But they are a fun addition to our "hair stockpile!"

Your model is just a doll! And how nice that you offered a set of these curlers for the SITS auction!

Just stopping by from SITS to thank you for donating something for the auction. It's people like you that make things like that so successful. May God bless you richly.
